Ninja Recognition: Melissa Sholes

Why Melissa?

Melissa has been putting in the work with us since January 2023, and she’s a perfect example of what consistency and effort can do over time. Her strength has gone way up, her endurance keeps improving, and she continues to show up ready to get better every single session.

But what really stands out about Melissa is the impact she has on everyone around her. She brings energy, pushes others to work harder, and isn’t afraid to hold people accountable in the best way possible. That kind of presence makes a big difference in our community.

She’s also incredibly coachable—always listening, learning, and applying feedback to keep improving.

Your CrossFit Story: How and when did you get started? 

I started CrossFit in 2022 - and about a year later I started at CrossFit 8mile. I wasn’t seeing progress or feeling motivated enough going to a standard gym on my own, and I wanted to give CrossFit a try to see if it would help me stay motivated/ help me stay organized. Every time I went to the gym I didn’t really know what to do, and moving aimlessly also wasn’t helping me make any improvements.  

Why do you continue to do CrossFit?

I continue to do CrossFit because I feel so much better during the week physically and mentally- my energy and anxiety is better. Plus I like seeing everyone :)

Favorite movements?

Cleans/ weighted planks/ dumbbell shifts

Least favorite movements?

Barbell Snatch

Goals

Increase my endurance. I enjoy hiking, and my favorite hikes include views that are hard to reach. I want to be strong so I can literally climb mountains!
